Vadodara: Former Indian captain and legendary fast bowler Kapil Dev, has lashed out heavily on the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) criticising them for sacking bowling coach Venkatesh Prasad and fielding coach Robin Singh saying that the decision was taken without considering the good work they had done with the team in the last couple of years.
Echoing the same sentiments as Bishan Singh Bedi, who had recently slammed the BCCI for unceremoniously terminating the services of both the coaches, Kapil said that both Robin and Prasad were doing a commendable job for the team and if the reason for their sacking was the performance of the team then the coach and manager should also be held responsible.
“Both of them (Prasad and Robin) have done a good job for the team. The Board should have removed manager of the team also holding him responsible for poor performance of the team in Champions Trophy,” Kapil told PTI after inaugurating Rs 100 crore Madhuban Resort and Spa at Anand about 40km from here.
“The basis of removal from the post should be performance criteria. Why should there be a sword hanging over those who are giving good result?” he asked.
Asked about the performance of the Indian team in the first ODI against Australia, Kapil said that the Australians were no doubt the better side in the first one-dayer in Vadodara.
“I think the team which performed better won the match and the Australians were the better side that is why they won in Vadodara,” he said. “The team needs to concentrate in each department of the game to win the seven one-day series against Australia and emerge as a force to reckon with.”
