Mumbai: Well, here is a surprising fact if you look back at the last year. Bangladesh, who are languishing at the bottom of the ICC Test Championship table, had the highest winning percentage in the longest version of the game in 2009, having won two of the three test matches that they played.
Bangladesh had a winning percentage of 66.66, followed by Australia (53.84 per cent) and India (50 per cent). The two wins for Bangladesh came against West Indies in their tour of the Caribbean in July last year. They lost a Test against Sri Lanka in January, 2009.
Australia played 13 Tests, won seven, lost three and drew three while India had three wins from six tests, suffered no loss and drew the other three.
Bangladesh was surprisingly the most successful ODI team in 2009 as well, followed by India and Australia. Bangladesh played 19 ODIs last year, won 14 and lost five and had a winning percentage of 73.68.
India had 17 wins from 31 ODIs, suffered 10 losses and there was no result in four matches. Their winning percentage was 62.96. Australia played 39 ODIs, won 23, lost 14 and two matches didn’t have any results for a winning percentage of 62.16.
Meanwhile, Sri Lanka registered the biggest victory in terms of runs with their 234-run win over Pakistan on January 24. India, on the other hand, scored the most runs in an ODI innings with 414-7 against Sri Lanka at Rajkot.
Zimbabwe had the distinction of registering the lowest completed innings when they were shot out for 44 by Bangladesh.
Among individual batsmen, West Indies captain Chris Gayle hammered the most number of sixes over the year with 27, while Indian Suresh Raina came third with 24, behind Zimbabwean Elton Chigumbura.
