Bangalore: Former Indian skipper Rahul Dravid went under the knife on Friday for a corrective surgery to his left upper jaw which he had injured during the second test against Bangladesh.
The right-handed batsman, who had broken his jaw after being hit by a Shahadat Hossain bouncer in Mirpur, has been advised rest for at least 2-3 weeks. The surgery was done by maxillofacial surgeon Dr Kishore Nayak.
“Rahul Dravid suffered a depressed fracture of the left cheek bone (left zygomatic arch bone) and this was corrected using a standard open approach. He will be discharged from hospital and can resume normal activities in about two days,” Dr H S Balal, medical director, Manipal hospital said.
“However, he has been advised not to play cricket or any contact sports for about 2-3 weeks by the treating surgeon Dr Kishore Nayak. He will be reassessed for fitness on a regular basis,” he added.
The surgery has ruled Dravid out of the Test series against South Africa. He is, however, expected to be fit for third edition of the Indian Premier League in March.
