Karachi, June 3 2009: A senior official of the Pakistan Cricket Board has made it clear that the organisational and administrative set-up of the board would not be revamped without the approval of the general council which will meet soon to decide the fate of some 250 employees.

The PCB is planning to enforce a new working system for which it plans to lay-off some 250 workers, a move that already created a lot of concern in the nation’s cricket circles.

But PCB chief operating officer Saleem Altaf has made it clear that no decision would be taken without the general council’s approval.

“The general council has to approve the new plan for it to be implemented,” he said.

“The general council is due to meet soon to discuss some important issues,” Altaf added.

Ejaz Butt since taking over as PCB chairman last October has constantly maintained that the board was overstaffed and there were too many unnecessary expenditures which needed to be curtailed.

Altaf is a member of the committee formed to prepare a list of employees to be laid off.
