Lahore: Controversies continue tormenting Pakistan cricket, with the war of words between former captain Shoaib Malik and current skipper Mohammad Yousuf heating up and threatening to take Pakistan Cricket to new lows.
Shoaib Malik rubbished Mohammad Yousuf’s allegations that he was spoiling the unity of the team while adding that he will hit back soon and publicly expose Mohammad Yousuf.
“He (Yousuf) has made some serious allegations against me and this time I am going to reply to him very soon and expose him publicly,” Malik said.
“That allegation is not true. I have always been a team man and I have done nothing to spoil the atmosphere of the team. Yousuf attacked me first when I was captain in 2008 and he is doing it again now when I have been made captain for these two matches,” Malik said while referring to Yousuf’s recent allegations that he, along with the Akmal brothers, ruined the dressing room’s atmosphere.
Malik would be leading the side in the two T20 matches against England, which would be played in Dubai on February 19 and 20. He was appointed the captain of the team after Pakistan’s T20 skipper Shahid Afridi was banned for two matches following a ball-tampering scandal during the fifth and final one-day international against Australia at Perth earlier this month.
Taking a dig at Yousuf, Malik said Pakistan was a totally different side in the last two matches of the disastrous tour Down Under.
“If you compare the spirit in the first seven matches on the Australian tour to the spirit you saw in the last two matches, what was the difference? Wasn’t it a totally different side? And who wasn’t playing in those last two games?” he said.
It was a clear insinuation towards Yousuf, who didn’t play the fifth and final ODI at Perth.
