London: After reports that England skipper Andrew Strauss is not happy with a lot of his teammates playing in the cash-rich Indian Premier League instead of a packed international calendar, Strauss himself said in an interview that he has no problems with his players playing and benefitting from the IPL.
England’s star batsman Kevin Pietersen and Twenty20 captain Paul Collingwood are scheduled to play in next year’s tournament while youngsters like Stuart Broad, Eoin Morgan, Jonathan Trott and James Anderson are high on the franchisees priority list for the next season.
“I have no problems with people playing in the IPL. The guys who went last time felt they learned something from it and next year the World Twenty20 follows immediately afterwards,” Strauss said.
“There are huge benefits playing in the event, no doubt. But we have to keep them fresh and motivated. The amount of cricket we play is an issue and we have to be sensible,” The Sun quoted him, as saying.
England are currently playing a five match ODI series against South Africa in South Africa and are leading the series 1-0 after the first two games. With news of Graeme Swann and Stuart Broad being fit for the third ODI, England would be at full strength when they go out against the Proteas at Newlands.
