Mumbai: India have got another opportunity to climb to the No.1 spot in the ICC Test rankings if they could manage to beat Sri Lankan in the third test at Mumbai starting December 2.

India are currently leading the series 1-0 after they won the second test at Kanpur. If they can win the series 2-0 it will propel them to the No.1 spot with 124 rating points. South Africa will be pushed down to second (122 points) followed by Australia (116) and Sri Lanka (115).

However, if the Mumbai test doesn’t produce any result, India will be tied with South Africa at 122 points but Mahendra Singh Dhoni’s men will be one spot below Graeme Smith’s team when the ratings are calculated beyond the decimal point.

In case of a Sri Lanka victory, both sides will retain their pre-series rankings. Unlike the ODI Championship table, the Test Championship table is only updated after the end of a series.
