Has Kings XI Punjab sacked Yuvraj from captaincy? thumbnail

New Delhi: According to some rumours circulating in the Indian cricketing fraternity, Punjab dasher Yuvraj Singh has been sacked from captaincy of his IPL franchisee Kings XI Punjab, ahead of the third season of the Indian Premier League to be held in March-April next year.

The news as not yet been confirmed by the Kings XI management. The reports also say that though no replacement has yet been named for Yuvraj, there is a high probability that either Sri Lankan skipper Kumar Sangakkara or his predecessor Mahela Jayawardene, both part of the Kings XI Punjab team, may be given the responsibility of leading the side in the third season.

Yuvraj Singh is the icon player of the franchise based out of Mohali and led them in the first two seasons of the cashrich T20 league with decent amount of success. Under his leadership, Kings XI Punjab reached the semis of the first edition of the league while they had a bit of a rough time in the second season, winning 7 games and losing an equal number, failing to make it to the semi-finals of the tournament which was held in South Africa earlier this year.

Yuvraj himself has performed reasonably well with both bat and ball, with the highlight of his stint so far being the two hat-tricks that he has already taken with his left-arm spin.

However, when asked about Yuvraj’s sacking and him being made the captain, Kumar Sangakkara denied the rumours. “I haven’t heard anything about it. I’m still waiting to hear. I think Yuvraj is a good captain and he’s done a good job for Punjab and it’s the final year before everyone goes back into auction. So, I’m sure he’s looking forward to doing well for Punjab. But I haven’t heard anything about the captaincy.”
