New Delhi: Indian Premier League commissioner Lalit Modi has written on his twitter page that he will not let the player associations dictate terms to them and the tournament will take place in India as scheduled.
Modi said that he had no issues if “a few players play into the hands of the FICA and not show up”.
“The IPL will allow replacement for those who decide not to show up,” he said on Twitter. However, “they risk being in future IPL. The call is theirs,” he added.
“I have been sent messages through various quarters to entertain FICA president Tim May. Unfortunately, we do not recognise FICA or any agents,” Modi wrote.”There are as many as 98 players on the waiting list. So they have hope now if some drop out.”
The IPL commissioner also wrote that he has been getting reports that Ricky Ponting is pressuring the Australian players to not come for the tournament and the reason for that may be the fact that Ponting was dropped this season by his franchise, Kolkata Knight Riders.
“Ricky Ponting is pressuring players not to come. Maybe, it’s due to the fact he was dropped from KKR,” Modi wrote.
Modi also gave examples of the Hockey World Cup, which begins February 28, and the ongoing series between India and South Africa, saying that everyone is satisfied with the security arrangements in these events. “The government has already given ample assurances for safe conduct of games. We are working with all agencies in this direction,” he said.
Modi also questioned the foreign teams about whether they would not tour India later in the year if the Champions League was held in India.
“Chances are that Champions League will be in India – will the teams say they will not come??? Doubt it. Australia tours India in October – will Australian Players Association dictate them not coming then? Doubt it,” wrote Modi.
The IPL Chairman also said that the IPL is an Indian tournament and they will not let anyone tell them how to conduct the tournament. “DLF IPL is for India and will remain for India. No one can dictate to us how we should conduct our tournaments. IPL is for our fans in India and globally, people who love the game of cricket. We have set new standards and are proud of it,” said Modi.
