New Delhi: The team management of Kings XI Punjab said on Monday that it would not ask Yuvraj Singh to continue with Punjab if the star player has made up his mind about leaving the team after this year’s Indian Premier League.
Reacting to reports that Yuvraj, stripped of captaincy, was keen to shift teams and play for a new IPL franchisee from the next season, Kings XI Punjab co-owner Mohit Burman said if the player had already decided on leaving, there was not much the management could do.
“If he has given such a hint, what can I do? It’s upto him,” said a peeved Burman. “After the season is over, we will speak to him. But at the end of the day, you cannot force people to stay if they don’t want to.”
Yuvraj’s three-year contract with Punjab ends this season and there has been a lot of speculation that the explosive southpaw is keen to leave. “When time comes, we will discuss the issue with him and arrive at a solution that both are happy about,” Burman added.
