Kaneria, Gul take Pakistan closer to historic win thumbnail

Sydney: Leg-spinner Danish Kaneria and fast bowler Umar Gul ran through the Australian middle-order as Pakistan moved one step closer to a historic test win with Australia finishing the third day of the second test at 286-8, a lead of 80 runs.

Danish Kaneria ended the day with figures of 4-117 while Gul finished with 3-62 as Pakistan closed in on drawing level in the three match series. Pakistan haven’t beaten Australia in a test match since 1995.

Michael Hussey was the lone survivor for the Aussies scoring an unbeaten 73 after Shane Watson (97) was dismissed in the nineties for the third time this summer.

Australia lost five wickets in the last session after reaching 199-3 at the tea interval. Danish Kaneria removed Marcus North (2), Brad Haddin (15) and Mitchell Johnson while Mohammad Asif picked up the crucial wicket of Michael Clarke (21). Umar Gul took the final wicket of the day by snaring Nathan Hauritz (4).

Earlier, Pakistan were bowled out for 333 resuming on their overnight score of 331 for 9 with Doug Bollinger picking up the final wicket to end with figures of 4-72.
