Perth: West Indies’s new pace sensation, Kemar Roach, has made the first move for the West Indies ahead of the third and final test match against Australia at Perth, saying that he is looking to crack the speed barrier of 155 km/h at Perth in a bid to rattle the Australian batsmen.
“I really think I can bowl much faster … I think I can get up to 155km/h in Perth, easy. I want to bowl as consistently and as fast as possible and try to bowl what the batsmen don’t expect. My rhythm to the crease and my fast-arm action gives me the pace. I’m pretty strong,” the 21-year-old Barbadian said.
“I just try to get my rhythm correct and really pull my left arm through; it creates some really fast deliveries. I have heard about the Perth wicket, I hear it’s pretty quick and bouncy. Most of the wickets in the world are flat, so to get one bouncy and pacy like this makes me really happy. I should really enjoy it here,” Roach said.
Roach also added that he would be targeting the prized scalp of the Australian skipper Ricky Ponting. He added that he is very excited to play on arguably the fastest wicket in the world and he would be looking to convert his till now just threatening spells into some wickets at Perth.
There was some bad news too for the West Indies though, with experienced middle order batsman, Shivnarine Chanderpaul, and young opener, Adrian Barath, both being doubtful starters for the third test against the Aussies starting on Wednesday.
Chanderpaul is still struggling with a finger problem after being struck on the hand in Adelaide, while Barath hurt his hamstring during the second Test. Travis Dowlin is expected to come in and open with Chris Gayle in place of Barath, while Chanderpaul’s spot is likely to be taken by Narsingh Deonarine.
“It’s not looking too good but we’ll see what happens tomorrow,” West Indian skipper Chris Gayle said. “Those two guys are the worry for us right now. It’s a big blow going into the final Test match but having said that whoever gets that opportunity, hopefully they will make the best use of it.”
