Perth: The Australian openers once again provided their team a solid platform, with Shane Watson leading the way with an attacking half century and Simon Katich providing him able support to take Australia to 109 for no loss at lunch on Day 1 of the third and deciding test of the series against West Indies.
Watson entertained the capacity crowd at the WACA with an unbeaten 69 while Katich was at the crease on 34. Australia won the toss and opted to bat first at Perth and whatever notions there were of this being the fastest pitch in the world were all put to rest in the first hour of play itself!
The only chance that West Indies got was when Chris Gayle dropped Shane Watson on 7, a miss that he may just look back and rue at the end of the match. Watson brought up his half century in just 76 balls which included as many as 12 boundaries.
Match Summary: at Lunch Australia 0 for 106 (Watson 69*) v West Indies
