Mumbai: In a major setback to an already depleted Indian team, pace spearhead Zaheer Khan has been ruled out of the three-match ODI series against South Africa. S Sreesanth will replace him for the series starting February 21.
Zaheer had pulled up a muscle in his right leg on the fourth day of the ongoing second test against South Africa and didn’t take the field on the final day.
BCCI chief administrative officer Ratnakar Shetty said in a press statement on Thursday that Sreesanth will replace Zaheer in the ODI series against South Africa.
The three-match ODI series kicks off in Jaipur on Sunday with Gwalior (February 24) and Ahmedabad (February 27) hosting the other two ODIs.
Zaheer joins Yuvraj Singh and Gautam Gambhir in the injured list while Harbhajan Singh has opted out of the first two ODIs, citing personal reasons. Yuvraj has been ruled out of the series due to a wrist injury, while Gambhir is out with a groin injury.
