Lahore: Mohammad Yousuf was retained as captain of Pakistan for the three test series against Australia after Younis Khan remained unavailable for selection, the selectors announced here on Tuesday.
Younis, who was appointed Pakistan captain till the 2011 World Cup, had pulled out of the ongoing tour to New Zealand for lack of form and he has since then made himself unavailable for selection. He did not participate in any domestic match in the time that he got off from international duty, which was a pre-requisite for his selection to the team.
Yousuf has also been named captain for the five-match one-day series that follows the Tests. Shahid Afridi, who has decided to take a break from test cricket, will lead the team in the one Twenty20 to be played after the one-day matches.
The first Test starts in Melbourne from December 26.
